Answers to things that make you go “hhhhmmmmm”

9262500-group-of-question-mark-symbols-part-of-a-seriesI had a wonderful spa-day yesterday – facial, massage and more! I was more than relaxed…until check out and pay up time. I was there using a gift certificate from my darling husband  and really hadn’t thought about tipping so when I was asked, “would you like to add a tip”, I had to think quick on my freshly pedicured feet! I’m not a frequent flier in this arena but I guessed that 20% was a safe and possibly generous bet, so I calculated that dollar amount – remember I was emerging from the very fuzzy, happy state of post deep-tissue massage bliss, so thinking about money was not my best skill at the moment! Then the sweet cashier said, “Between all of them?”  Color me flustered! I really don’t know if that was a judgement on the amount or a request for some clarification of who gets what so I just said, “yes” and let her interpret and calculate for herself. I hustled on out of there in my little disposable, rubber flip flops just a little less relaxed than I had been 5 minutes before.

I have faced this predicament before – how much to tip a server at a self-serve restaurant? How about the off-site airport shuttle guy…oh the pressure! So this time I was determined to at least get the spa/salon tip issue put to bed for good. So of course, Google is my friend and I found more than was looking for, as usual.

There is so much information in the world – isn’t it nice when it gets summarized like this for us?!  Here is everything you need to know about tipping – Thank you J.D. Roth!  http://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-how-much-you-should-tip-for-every-service-2012-8
