Snowflakes. They fall as if the heavenly stars let go… let go of everything. They float and drift, as if they’re looking for a place to land, but feel at home wherever it may be. Snow is the great equalizer- it covers boundaries. Yards, roads- they are the same; covered in white.

In Florida, snow is basically impossible. So I have the next best thing- a snow globe. It is magical!

Ok, I know I’m not the only one watching Hallmark movies right now… And if I am, I apologize! Yes, they are silly, yes, they are predictable. But, they are also comforting. One common thing in almost all of them is the presence of a snow globe. I don’t know what it’s all about, but I caught the snow globe fever! I had to have one… not an easy task as I found out. Store after store…omg! You’d think it was an easy thing. Then, finally, I found the one. So magical!

My curiosity got the best of me, so I asked Alexa (who else in this day and age) where snow globes originated. Apparently, they were originally created in France in 1878. They began as etchings for paperweights and then were part of the Paris Expo. (I’m always fascinated by things that develop by accident.)

We try so hard to do things in a linear pattern, but in life, it is the unexpected serendipitous events are often the most meaningful.

As the snow gently falls in my protected world, I gain a sense of peace. I see a micro-world where all is calm, all is bright. If just for a moment, I join that world and feel the magic of the season. May you have the magic of the season as well!
