Awareness of small things can bring bigger understandings. I discovered this recently from an unexpected guest. Flying into Oregon from as far away as Florida, presents many differences. From palm trees to majestic pines, I prepared myself for intrigue. Yet, as I arrived with the excitement of my daughter’s wedding, I was greeted with something familiar- Queen Anne’s Lace. This gentle flower was a true reminder of how connected we all truly are.
I’ve seen this elegance announcing its presence to passerby’s along the roads and highways throughout my life, from the hills of Ohio, to the marshlands of Florida. It is a true testament of survival and adaptation.
The wedding was a joyous affair! Oregon, which is normally a misty, rainy place, became a crowd of summer parasols as the sun showed its face, as if by special invitation.
Family and friends traveled from Ohio, Florida, and California to join in a summer meadow wedding. Such grace and beauty enveloped us as we listened to vows of love and devotion wafting across the fields and up into the mountain air. Queen Anne’s Lace was in attendance as a subtle reminder, that like embroidered lace, with space to grow, each one of us is bound together through love- stitch by stitch.
