A Little Help For Our Friends

At first glance, she looked ordinary. She was sitting outside with her head cocked to one side, as if listening to a far away sound. Perhaps she was resting; perhaps waiting; maybe even wondering…

It wasn’t until she got up that I noticed it. The little squirrel’s back legs and tail dragged along the ground as she moved.

With great determination she scooted along in search of seeds in the grass. Quite the champion! I decided she would appreciate some help…

My daily routine now consists of filling a pan of water, putting down birdseed, and once a day putting out a peanut smothered with peanut butter. She doesn’t run away when I’m near, but she doesn’t come close either. “Scooter” remains cautiously friendly. She is inspiring to watch- the odds are against her, but she doesn’t waver- just carries on.

We all have struggles and difficulties in our lives. With a little help from each other, we can be our best selves! XO
